My Path for June
Slow Routines for Slow Days.
June, the month of slow mornings and lazy days. We have almost made it to the end of the school year which means, no more chaos of getting the kids out the door to school and racing back from a day out to meet the bus.
Some moms complain about having their kids home during the summer holidays, but I love it. My kids are best friends, and my 3.5-year-old gets so bored with her brother at school. Yes, they fight like typical siblings but that alone keeps them busy for hours.
These next few months I’m not setting any huge goals and want to focus on giving the kids the best summer while also keeping my house in working order.
I’m going to start with 3 simple routines that keep my house tidy.
Reset the kitchen every night. This will give me a blank slate to start with and I wont feel the need to wash dishes before i start making breakfast. This will keep the kids from getting hangry and make my brain feel less cluttered.
One load of laundry a day, start to finish. Wash, Dry, Sort and put away. With summer comes multiple outfit changes with swim clothes and wet towels. Staying on top of this is a MUST, I don’t have a choice if i want to stay saine.
Making all the beds and opening the blinds. I realize this is a standard habit that I should already be doing but sometimes my kids rooms get overlooked. They are 6 and almost 4 and have been helping me make the beds in the morning so I believe this is something I can encourage them to do on their own. A tidy bed makes it easier to see the things that need picked up and therefore the rooms in general will stay tidy.
It won’t be all work and no play this Summer. I have an entire bucket list of things I would love to experience with the kids based on my childhood experiences. Things that to this day stick out as core memories.
Summer 2026 Kids Bucket List:
Strawberry Picking
Picnic Lunches
Backyard Bonfires to roast Marshmallows and Hotdogs
Backyard Camping in the Tent
Library Summer Reading Program
Lemonade Stand
Kids Trip to Grandma’s House Alone
So many of these, especially strawberry picking and picnics were something we did every year without fail. The number one thing the kids are looking forward to is taking a trip to my parents’ house alone. They live out of state, so this is a dream come true. A week away from us while being spoiled by grandpa and grandma, what could be better?
While making memories with the kids is the heart of our summer plans, I also want to be intentional about a few personal goals.
I've slowly been working my way through mini Bible Study lessons instead of trying to read the bible straight through. Im really enjoying these little studies as I am able to complete them in the short moments I have alone throughout the day. The season im living in isnt built for long study hours and uninterrupted reading.
I have an app with a guide and while I love sitting down and writing out my thoughts, sometimes the day gets away from me and I can do my study in the quiet moments while rocking my little one to sleep.
Not the perfect plan i had envisioned but a big step from where I was at before.
Another area I'm focusing on this summer is taking better care of myself.
Creating healthier habits for myself is also a priority for this summer. I havent worked out for years and I've used the excuse of ‘mom body’ to excuse my eating habits.
While im not trying to loose an extreme amount of weight, the goal is to become healthy.
I've started with tracking my calories and going for walks. This month I am fitting walks into my days where I can and I’ve blocked out the weekend mornings for morning walks with the baby.
Its the perfect way to put him back to sleep after his 6am wakeup, it gets me moving and clears my head. No podcasts. No phone calls. No music. Just me, my thoughts and the birds chirping.
Of course, no summer plan would be complete without talking about food
The thing i love most about the summer is grilling. I havent put much thought into my meals for this month other than using our grill and smoker as much as possible.
Everything tastes better with a little bit of char!
Goal for this month is veggies. I cant wait to sive into my cook books and find some new ideas. I will be sure to share them at the end of the month!
Am i the only one who still loves cookbooks? I could read them for hours. My favorites are the Magnolia Home and Pioneer Women.
Ths older I get the more I slow down to enjoy things. Reading cookbooks, taking the time to plan the little things and enjoying the moments as they come.
I realize my goals arent exciting or anything life changing, they are slow and intentional. Life isn't built on the big moments, its a bunch of little changes and habits that get us to where we want to be.
A tidy house that functions well. More time outside. Simple meals on the grill. Walks with the baby before the rest of the world wakes up. Bible studies squeezed into 10 minutes of alone time. And building a childhood for my kids that they can look back on as the good ole days.
Come back at the end of June for an update!

I need to try those 3 routine things! Between my nursing job, being a mom, writing, and caring for everything, I get burned out quickly and the house flip flops between being clean and a wreck 🤣
I get it. I dont even have a job and I get burned out. I dont need my house to be perfect but having it manageable this summer is a must! Lmk how it goes if you do try those routines.
